Inflation is the rate at which prices for goods and services rise, eroding purchasing power. This calculator uses compound inflation: each year's increase is applied on top of the previous year's prices, not the original price. The "Rule of 72" estimates how many years it takes to double: divide 72 by the inflation rate (e.g., 72/3 = 24 years at 3%).
